Sometimes the family home is the best backdrop when looking to shoot a family portrait.  Nothing is more comfortable than your own home.  Family portraits have come so far in the past twenty years in that you are no longer limited to a portrait in front of your fireplace or lined up on the staircase.  A wonderful and warm portrait can be done just about anywhere.  The key is capture the “soul” of the family, and that can be done just about anywhere.  But it is always nice to have a beautiful backdrop and lighting, which ultimately just adds to the warmth of the portrait.  What I love about the first shot below is the warmth of the light reflecting against the windows from the afternoon sun and the sky and the hint of the Christmas Tree lights that are shining through.
